In 2013, the Government introduced the PE and Sports Funding Grant into schools. This should equate to approximately £9000 for an average sized Primary School.
Schools can choose how they use the funding, for example to:
The school received £8,000, plus £5 per pupil for PE and Sports Funding Grant 2016-17. This money has been used to part fund the salary of our sports coach, which has allowed us to extend the number of after-school clubs open to children.
Children's increased confidence to 'have a go'. Children are now undertaking a range of additional sports clubs in their time e.g. martial arts, dance and performance, swimming and team sports.
Children in KS2 attend swimming lessons until they can confidently swim 25m, using a variety of strokes.
Increased staff confidence when delivering PE, as a specialist are on hand to advise and to provide demonstration lessons.
Increased participation in before and after-school PE activities, in addition to timetabled PE sessions in school time:
Before school sessions are attended by 20 children, daily (11% of school cohort from Y1-6).
After school club attendance and participation is as follows:
Monday - 40 children attend (22% of whole school cohort) (Maximum club size - 40)
Tuesday - 20 children attend (11%) (Maximum club size - 20)
Wednesday - 20 children attend (11%) (Maximum club size - 20)
Thursday - 20 children attend (11%) (Maximum club size - 20)
Friday - 20 children attend (11%) (Maximum club size - 20)
Additionally, ALL clubs have had waiting lists.
All children also have additional opportunities to take part in a range of local and national tournaments.
For example, during the past year our children have taken part in:
We were successful in winning the dodgeball tournament; one of our children has been accepted to swim at County level, registering the fastest personal times for their age group in their swimming gala. They are currently training with 15 year olds; another child has been selected for training with Birchfield Harriers; children from our football team have been selected to play for local teams.
The proposed funding for PE & Sports Funding Grant during 2017-18 is £16,000, plus £10 per child. We will be using our PE & Sports Grant to fund the salary of PE Coach and to extend this role to include responsibility as the whole school Social Mentor. This will mean we are able to provide both additional PE opportunities in school, extend after-school club provision, maintain a PE specialist to support class teachers in their provision and delivery of PE lessons and, in addition, undertake individual and group social mentoring across the school.
A PE/Sport action plan and detailed report of the breakdown of the use of this funding and its impact will be added by April 2018.
