PE and Sports Grant

In 2013, the Government introduced the PE and Sports Funding Grant into schools. This should equate to approximately £9000 for an average sized Primary School.

Schools can choose how they use the funding, for example to:

  • hire specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers during PE lessons
  • support and involve the least active children by running after-school sports clubs and holiday clubs, e.g. the Change4Life clubs
  • provide resources and training courses in PE and sport for teachers
  • run sport competitions or increase pupils’ participation in the School Games
  • run sports activities with other schools

2017-18

During 2017-18 we will be using our  PE & Sports Grant to fund the salary of our Social Mentor/PE Coach, who provides both PE specialism and is qualified to undertake individual and group mentoring across the school.

2016-17 Impact

Children's increased confidence to 'have a go'. Children are now undertaking a range of additional sports clubs in their time e.g. martial arts, dance and performance, swimming and team sports.

Increased staff confidence when delivering PE, as a specialist are on hand to advise and to provide demonstration lessons.

Increased participation in before and after-school PE activities, in addition to timetabled PE sessions in school time:

Before school sessions are attended by 20 children, daily (11% of school cohort from Y1-6).

After school club attendance and participation is as follows:

Monday - 40 children attend (22% of whole school cohort) (Maximum club size - 40)

Tuesday - 20 children attend (11%) (Maximum club size - 20)

Wednesday - 20 children attend (11%) (Maximum club size - 20)

Thursday - 20 children attend (11%) (Maximum club size - 20)

Friday - 20 children attend (11%) (Maximum club size - 20)

Additionally, ALL clubs have waiting lists.

All children also have additional opportunities to take part in a range of local and national tournaments.

For example, during the past year our children have taken part in:

  • football leagues and tournaments with local schools
  • dodgeball tournaments
  • swimming galas
  • dance competitions

We were successful in winning the dodgeball tournament and one of our children has been accepted to swim at County level, registering the fastest personal times for their age group in their swimming gala. They are currently training with 15 year olds.
